The city

Salamanca is a popular student town, located in the West of the country, near Portugal. The river Tormes crosses the city and the population is 159.000 inhabitants these days.

Salamanca, in spite of its extreme climate (cold and dry in the winter and hot in the summer), offers numerous attractions for making a pleasant stay for its visitors, a city that points up for its cultural and artistic richness. Salamanca was European Capital of Culture in 2002. Music, dancing, exhibicions, street performances ... were part of the extensive program of Salamanca 2002.

The school

The school is situated in a historical building, five minutes walk from the Plaza Mayor. It has been recently restored, and equipped with the latest technology; twenty air-conditioned classrooms, a video and conference room, library and an information room with free internet access. There is also a spacious enclosed patio with a typical Castilian well where you can relax with a coffee and chat to friends during the breaks.

The classes

You will be able to choose among different types of courses: Spanish language course, Spanish language and culture course, Spanish language and literature course, Spanish language and conversation course, Spanish language and translation course, Spanish language and tourism course, etc. There are also 9 levels of learning, from beginners to proficiency. There is a maximum of 9 students in each class and the teachers have degrees in Philology and extensive teaching experience.

The courses can be: standard of 20 hours per week, intensive of 25 hours per week or super-intensive of 30 hours per week. There is also the possibility of attending classes in smaller groups of 4 students or having private lessons.

The accommodation

There are five possibilities for lodging in Salamanca during the course: with a Spanish host family, in a student residence, in a flat shared with other students, in a studio apartment or in hotel or hostel. The accommodation with a family would be the best option for experiencing the Spanish culture and it is also excelent for improving the language. The flat would be the ideal option if you want to have more independence and the student residence would be a good opportunity for making friends from different countries and live in an international environment.

Social and cultural activities

The school also organises many social and cultural activities. You can do a guided tour of the city, attend lectures about Spanish topics, watch films in Spanish, participate in sport activities, go to parties, learn traditional Spanish dances, visit other places at the weekends, etc.
