FRENCH COURSES IN LYON, A HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CITY

The city

Lyon has a very rich cultural heritage and is famous for its gastronomy and vineyards and more recently for its football team. At the crossroads of the main European cities, close to the Mediterranean sea and Alpine ski resorts, Lyon is perfectly located for people wanting to visit France and Europe. Lyon also offers a very dynamic cultural life and a variety of entertainment opportunities.

Lyon is considered "World Heritage" by UNESCO since 1998, and in its old town you can stroll in the traditional neighborhoods and visit the cathedral and other monuments. Furthermore, it is a vibrant and young city, with many cultural events and a wide leisure offer. It is the second biggest city in France.

The school

On the 1st floor of a beautiful art deco building in the heart of the city, the school offers a harmonious and convivial environment, a stone's throw from the historical centre of Lyon on one side and the business district on the other, at the crossroads of numerous choices of public transport, in a stylish and lively neighbourhood.

The school has modern facilities and it is adapted for teaching: 5 fully equiped classrooms, a student's room equiped with 5 PCs to work on french language and consult your mails, Wi-fi Internet connection, a fridge and a micro-wave, a coffee and hotdrinks machine, a water fountain, a non smoker environment (a particular exterior area reserved for smokers), a library and Video/DVD library.

The classes

There is a large variety of programmes and courses, and active and modern teaching methods with materials based on practice and communication. The school has well trained and motivated teachers who are specialized in the teaching of French to adult,s and original clases, made to measure by the teachers and the pedagogical manager, adapted and updated each week according to the needs of the groups.

There are 5 levels, from complete beginner to advanced, open all year round, and level tests are done so that you can be placed in a group adapted to your level and your needs. The types of courses that are offered: intensive-general Frenc course, semi-intensive general French course, French for specific aims, "à la carte", one-to-one French classes and evening French classes (2 lessons per week). Self evaluation tools are provided so that you can accurately analyse your progress and continuous evaluation by your teachers.

The accommodation

There are two main possibilities of accommodation: with a French family or in a hotel residence. The accommodation with a family lets you meet French people and share a part of their daily life.
The school selects families for their seriousness and their wish to meet and integrate a foreign student.

If you want to be more independent, you can rent a studio in a hotel residence. The studios are furnished and equipped (kitchen and bathroom). The advantage with this option is its flexibility as you can rent it for only as long as you wish to stay in Lyon.
The school can also help you to find other types of accommodation like hotel, shared apartment or youth hostel.

Social and cultural activities

The school offers a wide range of cultural activities so that the students can know the French culture better. Some of these activities are: guided visits to the historic sites of Lyon, evening of cinema featuring a French film subtitled in French, proposals of activities and cultural events (shows, concerts, exhibicions,...), leisure and sport activities, language exchanges with French people who wish to practice the student's mother tongue, etc.
