VOLUNTEERING WITH CHILDREN IN AN ORPHANAGE IN CHILE

This organisation works in 14 institutions dedicated to underprivileged children in Santiago de Chile. These institutions include community centers, daycare centers, schools, and orphanages, where volunteers may have the opportunity to actually live with the children.
The tasks that volunteers do are varied: preparing meals, helping with the homework, taking the kids on excursions, organasing workshops, psycological help, language classes, dance and theatre, etc.




The only requirements for being a volunteer are being over 18 years old and having an interest in working with children. Although volunteers from everywhere in the world are welcome, it is convenient that they have some knowledge of Spanish. It is also a plus that they have computer skills, a driver's license, leadership, fundraising, computer, artistic, and teaching abilities. Finally, it is important that volunteers are energetic, patient and affectionate because they will work with abandoned and abused children. The work is unpredictable, but rewarding. Initiative, flexibility, and attitude will really determine your volunteer experience.

Volunteers pay nothing to participate in our program, and those who live in the orphanages stay for free. There is also the possibility of living in an apartment, hostel or home-stay, and in these cases the volunteer will be required to pay for their own housing, food, and transportation.

The minimum duration of the volunteering is 3 months and the maximum 2 years. For every three months of work, volunteers have a one week vacation to take advantage of traveling within the country. At any time, there may be as many as 30 international volunteers working together and independently across the city. Volunteers come from a wide variety of locations, so the organization provides a rich experience for cultural exchange.
